DESCRIPTION : This movie is really violent, it’s so violent that no one wants to take the responsibility of this film (Kaye tried and failed to have his name taken off the credit list) and people. The scene takes place in the Los Angeles, California. It’s the story of two brothers Derek Vinyard (played by Edward Norton, probably his best performance) and Daniel "Danny" Vinyard (played by Edward Furlong. Both are particularly clever and seem to be the pride of their parents, but the death of the father, shot down by a black drug dealer, will send Derek towards the Neo-Nazi movement and he will bring his brother with him. After many actions against the black community he will murder to black thugs (he will use a horrible and choking way for the first murder) and will be sent to jail. In prison his ideology has changed thanks to his experience in confinement and what he has seen. When he comes out he tries to prevent his brother from going down the same road, but it looks as if it’s too late. Danny has already become a white power skinhead. After discussions and arguments Derek makes him change his mind with his confession of what happened in prison. Every thing seems to be getting better but, one morning in the bathroom of the Danny’s college, a black Young man shoots down Danny, for having insulted him.

Description: Jimmy Smith alias B-rabbit (Eminem) is a young rap singer trying to increase his popularity. At the beginning of the movie he was at a Detroit rap battle organised by his friend David Porter “Future” (Mekhi Phifer). He lost the battle without saying a word. Everything was going badly in his life: he has been humiliated at the battle, he left his girlfriend because she was pregnant and he has a miserable job. After quitting his girlfriend, he lived in a stinky trailer with his alcoholic mother Stephanie (Kim Basinger) and his little sister (Chloe Greenfield). Moreover, his mother dated with Greg, one of Jimmy’s ex-classmate who is a mess. Jimmy realised that his situation has not evolved since he left school, his friends and him were always dreaming of becomming celebrities but never managed to achieve their dreams because of the “Leaders of the Free World”: the opponent crew. Firstly he said that he was a victim of circumstances, he said he was unlucky until he realised that he was able to control the direction of his life. One day he asked the question to his friends, and Future (the leader of his crew) answered him that one day something huge is going to happen. Jimmy became angry and said: "All we ever do is talk shit”. He met Alex (Brittany Murphy) in a club. She was a young girl trying to launch a top model career and was optimistic. They started a relationship and she tried to convince him to take control of his life, and to make a demo with Wink (a friend of Jimmy who was not in good terms with Future). Jimmy agreed and he saw, in the studio where he was supposed to record, Alex having an affair with Wink. Upset, he punched Wink and left Alex. He decided to forget music for a while; he improved his attitude at work and asked for extra-hours. He was getting more responsible in order to earn money for his family. Future offered him to perform in another rap battle but Jimmy refused in order to work. Alex came to the factory where Jimmy worked and convinced him to sing in the tournament because she was leaving for New York the next day. American beauty is an American drama released in 1999. The film was directed by Sam Mendes, written by Alan Ball, and produced by Bruce Cohen and Dan Jinks. American beauty won 30 awards and 29 others nominations. The film tells the story of what we could call an ordinary “American family” at first sight. But, if we look closer, we see a man, Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) who is unhappy with his work in advertising, who lives with his cold and unsatisfied wife Carolyn (Annette Bening) who leads a brillant career of realtor, and his teenage daughter Jane (Thora Birch) who feels bad with her appearence and doesn’t get on with her father feeling like he doesn’t care about her. While Lester was seeing a cheerleader show at Jane’s high school, he couldn’t stop devour Jane’s best friend, Angela with one's eyes. From that moment, he knew he had to change his life. So he quitted his job to work at a fast food restaurant and he started developping his mucles to seduce Angela. At the same time, Jane got to know his new neighboor Ricky (Wes Bentley), son of Franck (Chris Cooper), Marine of the USA and Barbara (Allison Janney). Franck looked after his son giving him drug tests, and a straight education but Ricky seemed to be more curious to know Angela than listening to his father, so he recorded through his video camera the moving of his new neighboor and it appeared to please her. A few days later, Jane began a romantic relationship with Ricky. Then, Lester discovered that Carolyn was infidel with her rival Buddy Kane (Peter Gallagher), with no surprise, and he continued to flirt with Angela eveytime she visited Jane. It talks about a boy: will ( Matt Damon) who has been beaten by his father when he was young. To forget his problems he takes refuge in mathematics, physics and medicine. Furthermore he recognizes himself into Nietzsche, Shakespeare, Pope, and Locke. Then, at the age of 20, he spends time fighting, watching baseball and drinking beers with his only mates. Fortunately, whereas he was working as a road sweeper his genius has been discovered by the professor Lambeau when he solved a very difficult problem of mathematics. Meanwhile, he hurt a policeman very seriously, so he has been sentenced to prison. Moreover thanks to the professor Lambeau he avoided prison on two conditions: the first is to work with him and the second is to see a therapist. But, because of his very distinctive personality he has trouble to find a therapist who accepts to help him. Then, it’s the beginning of a arm wrestling between the two men who both suffer from their past. They will learn to trust each other. At the same time Will tries to have a normal life despite of his lack of confidence. |
